General Questions

Membership and Account Questions

Q: My computer won't play the sign videos. What should I do?
A:

To play the sign videos, your computer must have the latest flash player installed. Please click here to validate your flash player plug-in. The link will open a separate window displaying the Adobe's flash player test page. If you do not see the flash images, you will be prompted to download the latest player.

Q: Why can't I see all the signs on the website? Why are they locked?
A:

There are sign videos that we offer to the general public that are basic signs in ASL.  The signs that are identified with a lock symbol are considered premium signs that can be viewed by a registered member.  With a paid annual subscription, a registered member is able to access all sign videos and account features.

Q: It takes a long time to play the sign videos. Why?
A:

The sign videos require a broadband internet service such as cable or DSL. If you have a broadband connection, you should not have any issues in viewing any of the videos. If you have a dial-up internet service, you will experience slow loading time on your computer.

Q: I can't find a sign video. The word I searched isn't found.
A:

ASL is a large, complex language. While our database is growing, we strive to include every sign. Contact us if you feel a sign is missing and we will do our best to incorporate it into the database.

Q: I believe ASLSearch.com has a wrong sign for a word.
A:

Signs for each word may vary by region. Since we are based on the West Coast, the majority of the signs displayed in videos are commonly used here. Signs can have multiple meanings or multiple words have the same sign. We aim to provide all variations of signs/meanings for a particular word.

Q: Do you have any educational material that you can provide me with?
A:

We only work to provide sign videos as your reference. In the near future, we will be able to provide additional materials for educational purposes. Please check back periodically for updates.

Q: Am I able to copy a video to my blog or website?
A:

In the Terms of Use Agreement, it specifically states that ASLSearch.com and its contents are protected by copyright and trade mark laws.  You do not have permission to sell, publish, distribute, retransmit, or otherwise provide access to the content received through the subscription or website to anyone, including students or employees.   Please review the Terms of Use Agreement to make sure you are in compliance with the terms.
